News!
As you may have noticed, I have been taking something of a break. I have still been playing out, but with less frequency than before. To be honest, after I recorded Such Noble Men, I thought I might be done. It seemed like the songwriting well had run dry. I was incredibly proud of Such Noble Men, but the balancing act that is grown-up life happened and my priorities shifted. Josh and I closed on our first home just days after the Such Noble Men release show. A year later we were married. Happiness ensued, but so did writer's block. The day job took up more and more and I found myself without the space, time, or motivation to create music. The desire was still there, but the songs just didn't happen. Until they did.
Sometime last year I began writing again. I made the space I needed. I started by taking some old unfinished songs and dusting them off. Some of them found new life, some were reimagined from the ground up with only a verse surviving, and others - well, let's just say I remembered why I never recorded them in the first place. Then the new songs came. "Long Island Sound" took me back to some particularly painful moments in my life, and somehow found beauty in them. That was one of those songs that just comes out of the blue, as if from a muse. That's when the dam broke. I found inspiration in places I had never looked before; a camping trip, a childhood UFO sighting, the diplomas on my wall. Before I knew it, I had written a new album. Some of you have heard some of the new material like "Long Island Sound" and "Choke" at shows, but I've kept most of these new songs pretty close to the vest so far. I think you're going to like them. I love them. The songs are all written and arranged, and hopefully recording will commence soon. I'm looking forward to trying out some new sounds and incorporating some new styles this time around. Stay tuned; there's more to come. |
